A Simple Skincare Routine That Works in Kenya's Climate

14 June 2026 · Skincare by Sandra

You do not need ten products to have healthy, glowing skin. In Kenya's warm, sunny climate — and especially along the hot, humid Mombasa coast — the secret is keeping things simple, gentle and consistent. Heat and sweat mean your skin is working hard all day, so the right routine should support it without clogging your pores. Here is a three-step routine that anyone can follow, whatever their budget.

1. Cleanse, morning and evening

Coastal living means dust, sunscreen, sweat and extra oil build up on your skin through the day. Wash it all away with a gentle cleanser twice daily. Use lukewarm water rather than very hot water, which strips the skin and leaves it tight and dry. In the humidity of Mombasa, a lightweight gel or foaming cleanser usually feels more comfortable than a heavy cream.

2. Moisturise the right way

Even oily, sweaty skin needs moisture. When skin is dehydrated it often produces more oil to compensate, which leads to shine and breakouts. Choose a light, fast-absorbing lotion in the morning and a slightly richer cream at night. If your skin feels tight after cleansing, that is a sign it needs more hydration, not less. Browse our body lotions to find a texture that suits the climate and your skin type.

3. Protect with SPF every single day

The single best anti-ageing step is sunscreen. The equatorial sun on the Kenyan coast is strong all year round, even on cloudy or rainy days. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF every morning as the last step of your routine, and top it up if you spend hours outdoors. This one habit prevents dark spots, premature wrinkles and uneven tone better than any expensive serum.

Building good habits

Consistency matters more than the number of products. A few thoughtful extras — a hydrating serum, a weekly gentle exfoliation, plenty of drinking water — can help, but they are optional. Quality matters too: genuine beauty products are kinder to your skin and last longer than cheap fakes.

Tip: give any new product two to three weeks before judging it. Skin needs time to adjust. When you are ready to refresh your routine, explore the full range of skincare Mombasa shoppers love at our shop. You can pay via M-Pesa and we deliver across Kenya.
